I'm Lisa, co-founder of Om Shanti and owner of Eight Limbs Yoga (where our in person trainings will take place). I have been teaching full time for the last four years. I found my way towards Yoga about 12 years ago at a time when I felt I had no where else to turn. Yoga quite literally saved my life. In that first class I experienced something profound. I felt I could finally breathe, and for brief moments my mind was settled, I felt at peace. I was hooked.
So I kept practicing, yearning for more. In 2017 I made a drastic move deciding to take a six month deep dive into spiritual practice traveling through India and Nepal. I took my first teacher training in Risikesh with World Peace Yoga School and eventually found my way to Mysore where I met my teacher Bharat Shetty at Indea Yoga. I have been fortunate to visit and study under his guidance four times now, completing my second teacher training on my last visit in 2020.
Yoga is such a powerful and transformative tool. A practice that continues to inspire and uplift while bringing balance and purpose to my life. Teaching yoga is a gift; one I take with seriousness and devotion. My personal practice is rooted in Ashtanga and Hatha disciplines, and highly influenced by Iyengar. I look forward to exploring and supporting you in the asana pranayama and kriya components of our teacher training program.
Shanti/Peace
My name is Jenn and I am one of the co-founders of Om Shanti School of Yoga. I began an on again, off again relationship with yoga years ago coming to the mat purely for the physical movement.
Turning to yoga and exploring the stillness of slow, restorative classes while working through a mental health illness was where I deeply connected to the mind, body, breath element and my understanding and appreciation for the other pieces of yoga developed.
In 2019 I felt the need to dig deeper into my practise and enrolled in my first 200YTT.
Since then I have completed many additional hours (whose counting at this point) of training to become an RYT500/ERYT200.
I love to teach Yin, Restorative and Meditation style classes and believe that the practise of yoga is meant for everybody. I love to offer props and modifications to make yoga accessible.
I have found my path as a teacher in an unconventional way….
Originally going to university with intentions to pursue teaching after graduation I ended up in a 15 year career as an Emergency Communications Operator, which led to many opportunities to teach and train adults & spent a number of years as an Adjunct Professor at Seneca College.
After YTT I trusted my instincts and my heart and knew this was where I was meant to be, left my full time job to open my own business, Rooted & Rise and teach yoga full time. The journey to becoming a teacher was long, took a bit of a detour and doesn’t quite look how I thought it would but it’s exactly as it’s meant to be.
I can’t wait to welcome our next round of students and learn and grow together!
